Rehabilitation, Raising and Addition Design
This c.1932 beach cottage, originally sited very close to the ground was raised and the porch expanded. The Cottage also received a new roof. Interior work included re-configuring and expanding the existing kitchen and an addition that relocated the main bathroom and added a utility room. Electrical was upgraded and a mechanical system was added. The “hog-board” foundation detail is typical of Low Country style seen historically in South Carolina and Georgia—horizontal boards stacked with small spaces between for air circulation and screen applied to keep the insects out. A perimeter French drain, in lieu of gutters and downspouts, was also added to keep rainwater draining from the roof away from the foundation as there are no gutters.

Historic Tax Credit Rehabilitation and Addition
This historic residence was renovated after having been vacant for approximately 30 years. An addition was also necessary to accommodate a new kitchen and code compliant access to the second floor space. The wall construction presented a particular challenge when introducing modern heating and air conditioning systems. The walls are constructed of vertical posts with horizontal tongue and groove boards sandwiched between the posts and diagonal sheathing under the exterior siding. The project also included a pool house.
